Foreign minister: Hungary expects Paks 2 launch in early 2030s
PAKS, Hungary, Nov 14 (PRIME) -- Hungary and Russia have signed a construction works plan for the Paks-2 nuclear power plant to connect the new units to the electric power network in early 2030s, Hungary's Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Tuesday.
"We have signed a work schedule for the years to come today, and I can say on its basis that we will be able to connect the new power plant that we are building to the network at the start of the next decade," Szijjarto said.
Russia and Hungary signed an agreement to build the fifth and sixth units of the Paks power plant with VVER-1,200 reactors, or the Paks-2 project, in 2014. The Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority issued a permit for construction of the fifth and sixth units in August 2022.
The two countries signed documents to start construction works on the nuclear power plant’s site and to start producing the key energy equipment on August 18.
